Diversity in Law Enforcement :10/30

Diversity should be seen broadly through race, gender, life experiences and language. On the first day of starting my internship I assumed that Naugatuck police department would be more diversified. In my opinion it really is not. All the times I have visited the police department I only came across speaking to approximately three African American officers, and two hispanics.The administrative officer who is one of the three African Americans in the facility made it clear to me that there are not a lot of African Americans who work in law enforcement that we definitely need more. Situations like these are very upsetting to me because why is the world built like that?All individuals have the right to be protected, and individuals committing crimes need to be brought to justice. Equity, inclusion, and diversity are essential to ensuring protections and resolving justice.

WIldcard Post of the Day (9/19/22)

 First day of my internship with Naugatuck PD I was very nervous. I don't know why I was so nervous but I was. Everyone in the vicinity was so friendly and encouraging that my nervousness feeling disappeared real quick. I was able to meet many new people, and see officers I had already knew from when I was going to highschool in Naugatuck. I was able to get a tour of inside the station, and its huge! I sat inside the roll call room and observed all the officers work etiquette. They showed great leaderships skills to me; by wanting to make the community a lot much safer and providing ways on doing so. The officers spoke about incidents to the oncoming shift basically"filling them in". I realized the "roll call" room is the room where attendance is taken and assignments are given out for the day, rules are reminded, and even meetings are held. Wildcard Blogpost 11/14

 If I were running the Police Department things I would change about the organization are cameras. I feel as every police department should require both car and body cameras. There has been multiple incidents with police officers having violent encounters with minorities. Many people lost their lives, and footage was not caught on camera from the officers end. An example of this where this occurred was in George Floyd's situation. People who witnessed the incident recorded it where the video got out onto social media for the whole world to see. That video was never from the cop's point of view... it was from everyone elses. If there was a video from the cop himself Justice would of been served right there and then. Questions like Why was there no video footage of the officer communicating with George, arresting the man and etc? we will never know. There's many more reasons as to why cameras should be enforced but for the safety of communities and the people patrolling it 10...

Blog 2: Ethical Behaviors

Ethical behaviors I have demonstrated while participating in my internship so far are integrity and honesty, accountability, and responsibility. Every workplace has a code of ethics that leads to decision making and activities to have effective productivity. It is important to have ethical behaviors in the workplace because it can stimulate positive behaviors from employees that helps the organization grow whereas unethical behaviors in the workplace can do the opposite, damaging their reputation. Yes, I have seen unethical behaviors but not during my internship. An example of an unethical behavior I have witnessed before was time fraud. Misusing company time is the biggest unethical behavior that violates the moral norms of any company. I did not respond to this person’s behavior due to me not having the higher hand.
